SFK takes home 3 Scovie awards

The 2017 Scovie Awards panel of top culinary judges honored Smither Family Kitchen with three awards in three categories:

  • Spicy Relish Condiment
    • Classic Dillapeño (Spicy Dill)
      • The first dill relish with jalapeños in it that is not sweet.
  • Medium Processed Salsa
    • Original Salsa (Medium)
      • A family recipe since 1970.
  • Unique Wing Sauce:
    • SFK Habanero Dillapeño (Sweet Heat) 
      • Nacho mama's relish.

Dave DeWitt, founder of the Scovie Awards and the National Fiery Foods and Barbecue Show, said there were 131 total companies from 5 countries entering in the 2017 competition, with 100 winning at least one award.

Smither Family Kitchen won an award for every product they entered and were on of the few companies to win multiple Scovies.  In 2015, Smither Family Kitchen won two Scovie Awards for it's Original Dillapeño (Sweet and Spicy) in the Unique Salsa and Spicy Relish categories - the first product to win first place in both categories.

The Classic Dillapeño (Spicy Dill) was applauded for it's spicy, unique characteristics that have yet to be found in a sugar-free dill relish.  The Original Salsa (Medium), while humble in heat, tastes fresher than any other shelf-stable salsa in the market.  The Habanero Dillapeño (Sweet Heat) makes a great wing sauce or marinade and taking the award for Unique Wing Sauce is an honor for this exciting new product.
